The Acura Integra returned for the 2023 model year as a compact car from Honda's luxury brand. Among the California owners who filed NHTSA complaints, steering came up far more than anything else. If your Integra's steering, or any other problem, keeps sending you back to an Acura dealer without a lasting fix, a lemon law attorney can review the repair orders and tell you whether you may have a claim.

Short answer: the best lemon law attorney for an Integra case knows this type of claim, charges you nothing, will go to trial when a manufacturer will not be fair, tells you who will handle your case, and has real reviews you can check.

Acura Integra: Complaints from California Drivers

Since January 2021, California drivers filed 27 safety complaints with NHTSA about 2019 or newer Acura Integra vehicles.

Source: NHTSA consumer complaint data, California complaints received January 2021 through early October 2026, model year 2019 and newer, counted once per complaint. Models with more vehicles on the road tend to get more complaints.

Integra Complaints From California Owners

California owners filed 27 complaints with NHTSA about Integra models, all from the 2023 model year onward, filed through 2026. Each complaint was counted once. They describe what owners reported, not verified defects, and the totals are not adjusted for sales. With only 27 reports, this is a very small set.

Even so, one pattern stands out. Steering accounted for 19 of the 27 complaints. The other categories were tiny: engine (2), body or structure (1) and brakes (1). A single complaint may be counted in more than one category.

Most reports came from the 2023 model year (21), with 4 for 2024 and 2 for 2025. That makes sense for a car that was new in 2023, since early cars have had the most time on the road. Not one city reached 3 reports. San Diego, San Leandro and Los Angeles each had 2. These numbers do not prove anything about your car, but they show that steering is the main concern Integra owners in California chose to report.

Because the Integra is a newer model, some owners may still be within the original warranty period. Check your warranty booklet for the exact terms.

Why Steering Problems May Count as Safety Defects

Steering is one of the clearest examples of a system where a defect can be dangerous. If your Integra's steering feels heavy, loses power assist, pulls, sticks or makes noises while you turn, that may be a defect likely to cause death or serious injury. Under Civil Code 1793.22(b), if such a defect was repaired two or more times within 18 months or 18,000 miles, the manufacturer is presumed to have had a reasonable number of attempts.

Acura has issued a recall on this model, 24V744, and recall repairs can count as repair attempts. If you had a recall repair and the steering problem came back, keep that record with your other orders.

Other problems, like a body rattle or an engine noise without any loss of power, are usually ordinary defects. Those fall under the four-repair or 30-day rules. Either way, the presumption is only one path. You may still have a claim outside 18 months or 18,000 miles if the defect first appeared during the warranty.

Steering is not something to wait on. If the steering feels wrong, pull over when it is safe, note what happened and report it to the dealer as soon as you can.

Describing a Steering Problem to the Acura Advisor

Steering complaints can be hard to describe. Try to be specific: say whether the wheel felt heavy, stiff, loose or notchy, whether a warning appeared on the dash, and whether it happened at low speed in a parking lot or at highway speed. Say how often it happens and whether turning the car off and on made it go away.

Ask the advisor to write those words on the order, and ask whether a technician will test drive the car with you. Look over the order before you drive away. It should show your complaint, the mileage, the dates and the work done. If the dealer updated steering software to fix your complaint, make sure it is listed, because a software update done to fix your problem can count as a repair attempt. Repairs at an independent shop do not count against the manufacturer.

If the problem only happens when the car is cold, or after it sits in the sun, tell the advisor. Offer to leave the car overnight so the technician can try to reproduce it.

  • How the steering felt, in your own words
  • Any steering warning message, with a photo
  • Speed and situation when it happened
  • Recall work, software updates and parts replaced
  • Dates in and out and loaner dates

American Honda and the Acura Warranty

Acura is a Honda brand. Your Acura dealer handles repairs, but the warranty is backed by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the U.S. company behind both brands. A lemon law claim is made against the manufacturer, not the dealer that sold you the car.

If your owner's manual clearly requires direct notice to the manufacturer about a defect, send it in writing and keep a copy. If Acura client relations offers an extended warranty or a goodwill repair, have an attorney review it before you accept anything that limits your rights.

Keep track of how long each repair takes. Civil Code 1793.2(b) requires warranty repairs to be completed within 30 days unless you agree otherwise. If the dealer is waiting on steering parts, those days still count as out of service.

When one Acura dealer cannot fix the problem, a different authorized Acura dealer may be able to. Those orders are repair attempts as well, so keep them with the rest. Also, even though Honda and Acura share a U.S. company, use your Acura warranty booklet, not a Honda one, when checking coverage and notice rules.

Made-Up Example: An Integra With Heavy Steering

This is a made-up example. It is not a real client, and it shows the process only. Jordan bought a new Integra. A few months later, the steering suddenly became very heavy while Jordan was making a left turn, and a steering warning appeared on the dash. After a restart, the steering felt normal again.

The dealer could not reproduce the problem on the first visit but noted the complaint. A few weeks later it happened again, and the dealer performed recall work and kept the car for six days. When the heavy steering came back a third time, Jordan wrote down the date and mileage, took a photo of the warning, gathered the contract and both orders, and asked a lemon law attorney for a free review. The attorney explained that heavy steering may be a safety defect, confirmed the two repairs were within 18 months and 18,000 miles, and described the notice to American Honda.

In this example, Jordan's first visit still mattered, because the order recorded the steering complaint even though the dealer could not reproduce it.

Questions to Ask a Lawyer About Your Integra

Ask the attorney whether they have handled steering claims and claims against American Honda. Ask how they treat a recall repair that did not fix the problem. Ask what other records would help your case.

Ask about cost. Civil Code 1794(d) says a winning buyer recovers attorney fees, costs and expenses from the manufacturer. Our clients pay $0 out of pocket, and if we do not win, they owe nothing. Ask how the process would go, including pre-lawsuit notice and mediation steps that apply to many claims under Code of Civil Procedure 871.20 for manufacturers that opted in.

Ask how the attorney will respond if the manufacturer says the steering is normal because the car drove fine on a test drive. Your own records of each event, with dates and photos, help answer that.

  • Does my steering problem qualify as a safety defect?
  • Does the recall repair count as one of my repair attempts?
  • How would a buyback be calculated on my Integra?
  • What should I do if the problem happens again?

Next Steps for Integra Owners

Gather your contract and every repair order, including recall visits. Keep a log of each steering event with the date, mileage and what happened. If the steering feels unsafe, think carefully about driving the car and tell the dealer right away. Keep making your payments.

If a recall repair was done on your Integra, keep the recall notice you received in the mail along with the order. Do not have the steering repaired at an independent shop while the car is under warranty. That work does not count as a repair attempt, and it can give the manufacturer an argument that someone else changed the system.

Check your VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup, and report the steering problem to NHTSA. The general deadline for warranty claims is four years under Commercial Code 2725, so do not let it slip. Call 877-536-6620 today, or use this page's form, to request a free case review.

Acura Integra Lemon Law FAQ

Can an Acura Integra with steering problems qualify for lemon law?

An Integra with repeat repairs for a steering problem may qualify. Because steering defects may be safety issues, two repair attempts within 18 months or 18,000 miles can be enough for the presumption.

Does a recall repair on my Integra count as a repair attempt?

It can. If the recall repair did not fix the problem, keep that order with the rest of your records.

Who is the claim against for an Acura?

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. backs the Acura warranty, so the claim is made against it, not the dealer.

How much does a Integra lemon law attorney cost?

Usually nothing. California Civil Code section 1794(d) makes the manufacturer pay your attorney fees and costs when you win. At America's Lemon Lawyer you pay $0, win or lose.
