Jaguar owners expect a refined drive, so it is frustrating when an F-Pace keeps losing its Pivi Pro screen or an I-Pace will not charge. If your Jaguar was bought or leased new in California, or sold as a Jaguar Approved Certified Pre-Owned, demo or dealer vehicle, and the retailer has not been able to fix a recurring problem, keep reading.

The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (Civil Code 1790 to 1795.8) puts the burden on the manufacturer. When a covered defect is not fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer must replace the vehicle or buy it back, with an offset for the miles you drove before the first repair visit. Because these rights are tied to the warranty, acting while your coverage is still active is important. Problems reported after the warranty ends are much harder to use.

Jaguar Warranty Coverage and Lemon Law

Jaguar markets its new-vehicle coverage as Jaguar EliteCare. According to Jaguar's US website, EliteCare includes:

  • New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
  • Roadside Assistance: 5 years or 60,000 miles.
  • Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance: 5 years or 60,000 miles.
  • I-PACE battery warranty: 8 years or 100,000 miles, covering defects and a state of health below 70% as measured by a Jaguar retailer.

Jaguar's Approved Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty starts when the new vehicle warranty ends and runs for either 1 year with unlimited miles or 2 years up to 100,000 miles, depending on the plan. Terms differ by model year, so check your warranty booklet and CPO paperwork for exact coverage.

The warranty matters because lemon law protects you against defects the warranty covers. Since the basic warranty and the maintenance plan run for the same 5 years or 60,000 miles, many Jaguar owners visit the retailer regularly. Raise every recurring problem at those visits, even during a routine service, so it is written on the repair order. A complaint noted during scheduled maintenance can still show the manufacturer knew about the defect.

The I-PACE battery coverage runs longer than the basic warranty, so a battery or charging defect may support a claim even after year five. If you bought your Jaguar used, the Rodriguez v. FCA US LLC (2024) 17 Cal.5th 189 decision generally excludes ordinary used cars sold with only the remaining factory warranty. Certified pre-owned and demo vehicles should still be reviewed. Our used car FAQ explains the difference.

Common Jaguar Problems in Recalls and Complaints

Jaguar has 19 recalls on vehicles since the 2021 model year, according to NHTSA recall and complaint data, and owners have filed 62 complaints on those model years. Jaguar sells far fewer vehicles than mass-market brands, so smaller totals are expected. The pattern inside the numbers is still useful.

Electrical systems dominate

Five of the 19 recalls involve the electrical system, the most of any category. Two recent campaigns cover the DC to DC converter on the E-Pace and F-Pace (26V599000 and 26V248000). That part converts high-voltage power into the 12-volt power that runs lights, screens and modules. The I-Pace also has a 2026 traction battery recall. Seat belts, exterior lighting, engine and engine cooling, and air bags each account for 2 recalls. Equipment, visibility and back over prevention (the rear camera system) have 1 each.

Two recalls told owners to park outside because of fire risk, and none carried a do-not-drive warning. Two were remedied through over-the-air software updates.

Models and complaints

The F-Pace has the most recalls at 10, followed by the I-Pace (6), E-Pace (5), F-Type (2) and XF (2).

The complaint data points in the same direction. Of 62 complaints, 33 involve the electrical system. Owners in this category commonly describe warning messages, battery drain, infotainment resets and, on the I-Pace, charging failures or loss of drive power. The rest are spread thin: 4 each for the powertrain, lane departure features and unclassified or other issues, 3 for the engine, and 2 each for fuel or propulsion, steering and tires. By model, the I-Pace leads with 36 complaints, then the F-Pace (17), XF (5) and E-Pace (4).

What does this mean for you? A low complaint count does not mean your problem is unusual or unimportant. Lemon law looks at your own vehicle's repair history, not how many other owners filed reports. If your Jaguar has an electrical or battery problem that keeps coming back, that history is what counts, and the recall record can help show the issue is real.

How a Jaguar Lemon Law Claim Works

Jaguar calls its dealers retailers, and warranty work is done at authorized Jaguar retailers, often operated alongside a Land Rover store. Your claim is built from the paperwork those retailers produce.

Getting the right repair orders

At every visit, ask for a printed or emailed repair order before you pick up the car. Check that it lists:

  • Your exact complaint, for example "Pivi Pro screen goes blank and rear camera does not display."
  • Mileage and dates in and out, so days out of service can be counted.
  • Diagnostic steps, part numbers and any software update or module programming.
  • Whether a recall campaign was performed during the same visit.

Jaguar issues many fixes as software. In our experience, a software update can count as a repair attempt, and we have seen owners get the same update over and over. Over-the-air updates can happen at home, so note the date and what changed, and screenshot any update notice on the screen.

Civil Code 1793.22(b) creates a presumption that a vehicle is a lemon if, within 18 months or 18,000 miles, there were 2 or more repair attempts for a serious safety defect, 4 or more for the same problem, or more than 30 days out of service. Look in your Jaguar warranty booklet for any such instruction. The presumption is a benchmark; a Jaguar can qualify outside it. The 30-day rule FAQ covers out-of-service time, and in our experience days waiting for recall parts count.

Tips for I-PACE and plug-in owners

Keep a log of failed charging sessions with the date, charger and any message on the screen. Photograph warning lights and battery state of health readings the retailer shares with you. If a recall notice arrives, call us right away. In our experience, a recall visit can count as a repair attempt, especially if you complained about the problem first, and a recall with no available fix can support a buyback on its own.

The mileage offset starts at the first visit for the defect, so waiting costs you. Check your VIN on our recall lookup and estimate a refund with our California lemon law calculator.

California Lemon Law for Jaguar Owners

The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act protects Jaguar owners and lessees in California. If Jaguar or its authorized repair facilities cannot fix a warranty defect after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer must repurchase or replace the vehicle (Civil Code 1793.2(d)).

A vehicle is presumed to be a lemon if, within 18 months or 18,000 miles of delivery, the same problem was repaired 4 or more times, a defect that could cause death or serious injury was repaired 2 or more times, or the vehicle was out of service for repairs for more than 30 days in total (Civil Code 1793.22). Many vehicles outside that window still qualify while they are under warranty. New, leased, certified pre-owned, demo and dealer vehicles can qualify; ordinary used cars without a new-car warranty generally no longer do after Rodriguez v. FCA US (2024).

What you can recover

  • Buyback: your down payment, payments, taxes and fees, minus a mileage offset, with the loan or lease paid off.
  • Replacement with a comparable new vehicle.
  • Cash and keep: a cash settlement while you keep the vehicle.
  • Civil penalty of up to two times your damages if the manufacturer willfully failed to comply (Civil Code 1794(c)).

What it costs

Jaguar Lemon Law FAQ

Does California lemon law cover my Jaguar I-Pace?

Yes, if it was bought or leased new (or sold as Jaguar Approved Certified Pre-Owned) and has a warranty defect that has not been fixed after a reasonable number of attempts. Battery defects may fall under the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.

Who pays my attorney fees in a Jaguar lemon law case?

You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs.

Can I get a buyback for a Jaguar with a recall?

It is possible. In our experience, a recall repair can count as a repair attempt, and days waiting for recall parts count toward the 30-day benchmark.

My leased F-Pace keeps going back to the retailer. Does the lease matter?

No. Leased vehicles are covered under the Song-Beverly Act, and a lease buyback typically refunds what you paid and ends the lease.

Do complaints raised during free scheduled maintenance count?

They can help. If the problem is written on the repair order during an EliteCare maintenance visit, that record shows the defect was reported while the car was under warranty.

My Jaguar is registered to my business. Can I still file a claim?

Possibly. Under Civil Code 1793.22(e)(2), certain business vehicles qualify if the gross vehicle weight rating is under 10,000 pounds and the buyer has no more than five vehicles registered in California.

Jaguar Lemon Law — Your Rights

If your Jaguar vehicle has a persistent defect that Jaguar’s authorized dealers cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts, California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act may entitle you to a full refund or replacement. This applies to new and certified pre-owned vehicles still within the manufacturer’s original warranty period.

Under the lemon law presumption, you typically need four or more repair attempts for the same problem, two attempts for a safety defect, or 30 cumulative days in the shop. Jaguar pays your attorney fees if your claim succeeds — you pay nothing out of pocket.

Did You Know?

The manufacturer — not you — is required to pay your attorney fees under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d) if your lemon law claim is successful. You pay nothing upfront and nothing out of pocket.
