Most Chrysler owners in California today drive a minivan: the Pacifica, the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid or the Voyager. Some still drive a 300 sedan. When a family vehicle keeps failing, it affects school runs, commutes and road trips, and it can feel like the dealer has run out of ideas. This page explains your rights, using Chrysler's warranty terms and NHTSA data on Chrysler vehicles.

Chrysler vehicles are warranted by FCA US LLC, a Stellantis company. California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act says that if the manufacturer cannot conform your vehicle to its warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, it must replace the vehicle or refund the price you paid, less a mileage offset. That rule applies whether you bought or leased. If the manufacturer willfully refuses to comply, a court can add a civil penalty of up to two times your actual damages. A California lemon law attorney can tell you whether your Chrysler's repair history meets that standard.

Chrysler Warranty Coverage and Lemon Law

Chrysler's official warranty page explains that the brand's limited warranty covers repair or replacement of factory-installed parts for a set number of years or miles, whichever comes first, and that a common basic term is 3 years or 36,000 miles, with parts like the powertrain covered longer. The exact numbers for your van are in the Warranty Information booklet for your model year, which Chrysler directs owners to through Mopar.com.

Here is what to look for in that booklet:

  • Basic Limited Warranty: the bumper-to-bumper term that covers most parts, including Uconnect, power sliding doors and electrical items.
  • Powertrain Limited Warranty: the longer term covering the engine, transmission and drive parts. Recent FCA US booklets for its sister brands list 5 years or 60,000 miles for gas engines, but confirm the term for your Chrysler.
  • Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid battery and hybrid parts: the high-voltage battery has its own, longer limited warranty. Stellantis has described battery terms that differ by state, so check your booklet and your registration state.
  • Certified pre-owned coverage: Stellantis certified programs add powertrain and limited comprehensive coverage that depends on the tier you bought.

Two points about the warranty matter most for a lemon claim. First, the defect must be one the warranty covers, and it usually has to appear while that coverage is active. Second, many Pacifica and Voyager vans are bought used. After Rodriguez v. FCA US LLC (2024), ordinary used vehicles sold with only the rest of the factory warranty generally do not qualify as "new motor vehicles." Certified pre-owned, demo and dealer-owned vans can still qualify, so keep your certification paperwork. See does California lemon law cover used cars for details.

Common Chrysler Problems in Recalls and Complaints

According to NHTSA recall and complaint data, Chrysler has issued 31 recalls for vehicles since the 2021 model year, and NHTSA has received 1,932 owner complaints about those model years. Because Chrysler's lineup is small, nearly all of this activity centers on one vehicle: the Pacifica.

Recall patterns

Air bags are the most common recall component, with 7 recalls, several involving side curtain air bags in the Pacifica and Voyager, such as this curtain air bag recall. Visibility, electrical system, back over prevention (rearview camera) and adaptive or mobility equipment come next with 3 recalls each. The adaptive and mobility category includes child seat anchor and wheelchair-accessible conversion parts, which matters for a family or mobility van. Seats, tires and general equipment have 2 recalls each.

The Pacifica appears in 24 recalls, the Voyager in 16, the 300 in 5 and the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid in 4. Because the Pacifica and Voyager share a platform, many recalls list both. One recent example is a Pacifica traction battery recall involving the hybrid's high-voltage battery.

Three Chrysler recalls since the 2021 model year told owners to park outside, away from buildings, until repaired. Two were fixed by an over-the-air software update.

Complaint patterns

Engine complaints lead with 372, followed by the electrical system (358) and powertrain (341). Owners describe stalling or shutting off while driving, hesitation, rough transmission shifts, and electrical faults like dead batteries or a Uconnect screen that goes black. Fuel and propulsion complaints (156) often involve the plug-in hybrid system, such as warnings that the vehicle cannot be driven or will not charge. Air bag complaints total 90, vehicle speed control 72, and forward collision avoidance 65, the last usually describing unexpected braking. Another 159 are unclassified or other issues.

The Pacifica has 1,451 complaints and the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid has 387. The 300 has 42 and the Voyager has 36.

How a Chrysler Lemon Law Claim Works

Chrysler warranty work is done by authorized dealers, most of which also sell Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Any authorized dealer can repair your van under warranty, and every visit becomes part of the record.

What your repair orders should say

A good repair order shows the date in and out, the mileage, your complaint in your own words, and what the technician did. "Customer states sliding door will not close, third time" is far more useful than "checked door." If the dealer cannot reproduce an intermittent problem, ask that your complaint still be written on the order. If you are given a loaner or rental, keep that paperwork too, because it proves the dates your van was out of service.

Documenting minivan problems

  • Video power sliding doors or the liftgate that reverse, stall or will not latch.
  • Photograph dashboard warnings, such as hybrid system or air bag lights, before shutting the van off.
  • On a Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, save charging history, range readings and any recall letters about the battery.
  • Write down when a stall or loss of power happens, including speed, weather and whether the A/C was on.
  • Keep every recall notice and software update record. In our experience, a recall repair visit can count as a repair attempt, especially if you complained before the recall.

Timing

Do not wait. Days your van sits at the dealer waiting for recall parts count toward the 30-day out-of-service rule, and in our experience a recall with no available fix can support a buyback on its own. Some manufacturers have elected into the new pre-suit procedures created by AB 1755; read what changed with AB 1755 in 2025. You can estimate a refund with our lemon law calculator and check your VIN for recalls.

Popular Chrysler Models We Handle

Chrysler Pacifica

The Pacifica is Chrysler's gas-powered minivan, with power sliding doors and fold-into-the-floor second and third rows on many trims. It appears in 24 recalls since the 2021 model year and has 1,451 NHTSA complaints, more than any other Chrysler.

Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid

This version pairs a gas engine with a high-voltage battery that can be charged from the wall. It appears in 4 recalls and has 387 complaints. Hybrid battery and charging issues are covered by a separate warranty, which can help if trouble starts after the basic warranty ends.

Chrysler Voyager

The Voyager is a lower-priced minivan built on the Pacifica platform, with a simpler feature list. It appears in 16 recalls and has 36 complaints. A Voyager registered to a small business can still qualify if it meets the business-use rules in Civil Code section 1793.22(e)(2).

Chrysler 300

The 300 is a full-size rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan. It appears in 5 recalls and has 42 complaints since the 2021 model year. If your 300 is still under warranty and has a repeat defect, it is worth a review.

California Lemon Law for Chrysler Owners

The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act protects Chrysler owners and lessees in California. If Chrysler or its authorized repair facilities cannot fix a warranty defect after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer must repurchase or replace the vehicle (Civil Code 1793.2(d)).

A vehicle is presumed to be a lemon if, within 18 months or 18,000 miles of delivery, the same problem was repaired 4 or more times, a defect that could cause death or serious injury was repaired 2 or more times, or the vehicle was out of service for repairs for more than 30 days in total (Civil Code 1793.22). Many vehicles outside that window still qualify while they are under warranty. New, leased, certified pre-owned, demo and dealer vehicles can qualify; ordinary used cars without a new-car warranty generally no longer do after Rodriguez v. FCA US (2024).

What you can recover

  • Buyback: your down payment, payments, taxes and fees, minus a mileage offset, with the loan or lease paid off.
  • Replacement with a comparable new vehicle.
  • Cash and keep: a cash settlement while you keep the vehicle.
  • Civil penalty of up to two times your damages if the manufacturer willfully failed to comply (Civil Code 1794(c)).

What it costs

You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs.

Chrysler Lemon Law FAQ

Is my Chrysler Pacifica a lemon if it keeps stalling?

It may be. Stalling can be a defect likely to cause death or serious bodily injury, and if it happens within 18 months or 18,000 miles, two failed repair attempts can trigger the presumption that the van is a lemon.

Does California lemon law cover a Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid battery problem?

Yes, if the problem is covered by the warranty and the dealer cannot fix it after a reasonable number of attempts. The hybrid battery has its own longer warranty, so check your booklet for the term.

Who pays my attorney fees in a Chrysler lemon law case?

You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs.

Can I get a buyback for a Chrysler with an open recall?

Possibly. In our experience, recall visits can count as repair attempts, days waiting for recall parts count toward the 30 days, and a recall with no available fix can support a buyback on its own.

My Voyager is registered to my business. Does lemon law still apply?

It can. Under Civil Code section 1793.22(e)(2), a vehicle registered to a business may qualify if its gross vehicle weight rating is under 10,000 pounds and the buyer has no more than five vehicles registered in California.

I bought my Pacifica used. Am I covered?

If it was sold as certified pre-owned, or as a demo or dealer vehicle, it may qualify. After Rodriguez v. FCA US LLC (2024), ordinary used vehicles sold with only the leftover factory warranty generally do not.

Chrysler Lemon Law — Your Rights

If your Chrysler vehicle has a persistent defect that Chrysler’s authorized dealers cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts, California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act may entitle you to a full refund or replacement. This applies to new and certified pre-owned vehicles still within the manufacturer’s original warranty period.

Under the lemon law presumption, you typically need four or more repair attempts for the same problem, two attempts for a safety defect, or 30 cumulative days in the shop. Chrysler pays your attorney fees if your claim succeeds — you pay nothing out of pocket.

Did You Know?

The manufacturer — not you — is required to pay your attorney fees under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d) if your lemon law claim is successful. You pay nothing upfront and nothing out of pocket.
