Electrical System

High Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Very Strong

Electrical system failures are notoriously difficult to diagnose and repair, which often results in multiple unsuccessful repair attempts — a key element of a lemon law claim. Reported issues for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler include infotainment malfunctions, battery drain, warning lights, power window failures, and intermittent starting problems. 344 NHTSA complaints have been filed for this category. Owner reports include: “We took the car in for the death shake and were informed there was a recall on the Jeep (25V741000). The dealership performed the maintenance work. The 12V battery was also inspected and listed as good. Since the repair, the 12V battery has shorted multiple times and finally ceased running yesterday. It has been two weeks since the dealership recall repair. While the recall specifically impacted the HV battery, the 12V is interconnected and the liklihood of that battery being impacted is high. The safety impact is the car temporarily not being able to gain power after stopping at red lights and the battery draining when stopped or turned off. The check engine light appears every time.” (NHTSA Complaint #11722462)

Steering,Suspension

High Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Strong

Steering defects can create unpredictable vehicle behavior and qualify as safety-related under California lemon law. Reported issues on the 2022 Jeep Wrangler include pulling, vibration, loss of power steering, and electronic steering warnings. 156 NHTSA complaints have been filed in this category. Owner reports include: “We have had the death wobble happen several times when driving. It was so violently shaking we tried to stop quick on a 75 mph hiway. Very dangerous and scary. This has happened many times over the last month. Had wheels realignment and new shocks. Still happening” (NHTSA Complaint #11722155)

Other Systems

High Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Moderate

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler has generated 144 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. If your vehicle has experienced recurring issues in this area that the dealer has been unable to repair after multiple attempts, you may have a qualifying lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Owner reports include: “The dealership refuses to perform the 68c recall for my 4xe wrangler, [XXX] They said they are worried that there will be a glitch with the recall and they will have to hold on to my jeep for 3-4 weeks until a battery replacement is available. They don’t want to do this because there are already 3 cars in the dealership awaiting the same battery replacement. Given the seriousness of the recall (battery fires), this seems like an unsafe response to the recall. They mentioned they’ve been turning multiple cars away with this recall and that they have other recalls for other models to also worry about. This is coming from Southern CDJR Newport News; 12629 Jefferson avenue; Newport News, VA; 23602; 757-350-8747 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)” (NHTSA Complaint #11707722)

Powertrain

High Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Moderate

Powertrain and transmission defects directly impair the vehicle’s core function and are generally considered substantial defects under California lemon law. Owners of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler have reported harsh shifting, shuddering, slipping, and transmission warning lights. 144 NHTSA complaints have been submitted for this defect category. Owner reports include: “The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the transmission failed to properly engage. The contact was able to move the gear shift lever from park(P) to reverse(R), however, the transmission failed to respond as intended. The gear indicator flashed on the instrument panel. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle, and the transmission responded as needed. The contact stated that on other occasions, after the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The message “Service Transmission” was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialty shop, where it was diagnosed, and DTC: P0733 was retrieved. The contact was informed that the failure was with the third gear in the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was driven to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 21-009-25. The manufacturer suggested that the vehicle be taken to the dealer for an inspection, and depending on the findings, the manufacturer might assist with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.” (NHTSA Complaint #11701936)

On 12/13/2025 while driving 50 – 60 MPH, the vehicle started shaking/vibrating violently after going over bumps, in what I’ve heard is the “Death Wobble”. The steering wheel did not shake as much as the entire vehicle shook. Which recurred several times while driving, feeling as if the jeep would lost control and crash. The vehicle is scheduled to be taken to my mechanic who stated that it was the steering damper leading to other steering issues.” (NHTSA Complaint #11704948)

California Lemon Law — Song-Beverly Act

California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1790–1795.8) is one of the strongest lemon laws in the United States. It protects buyers and lessees of new and certified pre-owned vehicles that develop substantial defects the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts.

Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, a lemon law presumption is triggered when any of the following apply to your 2022 Jeep Wrangler:

  • 4+ repair attempts for the same non-safety defect without resolution
  • 2+ repair attempts for a defect likely to cause death or serious bodily injury
  • 30+ calendar days out of service for warranty repairs (cumulative, not consecutive)

Once the presumption is triggered, the burden shifts to Jeep to prove the vehicle is not a lemon. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Jeep must pay your attorney’s fees if you prevail — meaning qualified representation costs you nothing out of pocket.

What You Can Recover

If your 2022 Jeep Wrangler qualifies as a lemon under California law, Jeep may be legally required to:

  • Repurchase your vehicle — Full refund of your down payment, all monthly payments, registration fees, and incidental costs (towing, rentals), minus a mileage offset for miles driven before the first repair attempt
  • Replace your vehicle — Provide a new, comparable vehicle at no cost to you
  • Pay your attorney’s fees — Under § 1794(d), Jeep pays all legal fees if you prevail
  • Civil penalty up to 2x damages — If Jeep willfully violated the Act, courts may award double the actual damages

Steps to Protect Your 2022 Jeep Wrangler Claim

Step 1: Document every repair visit. Keep all repair orders, work orders, and dealer invoices. Each visit counts as a repair attempt, even if the dealer says nothing is wrong.

Step 2: Keep returning for repairs. You must give Jeep a reasonable opportunity to fix the defect. Visit different authorized Jeep dealers if needed and ask for written documentation of each visit.

Step 3: Contact a California lemon law attorney. Once you believe the threshold has been met — 4 attempts for non-safety defects, 2 for safety defects, or 30 days out of service — contact an attorney for a free case evaluation. Under § 1794(d), Jeep pays your fees if you win.

Step 4: Send a demand letter. Your attorney will send Jeep a formal demand letter. Most California lemon law cases resolve through negotiation without going to trial.

2022 Jeep Wrangler Lemon Law Questions

How many repair attempts qualify my 2022 Jeep Wrangler as a lemon?

Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, four or more repair attempts for the same non-safety defect, or two attempts for a safety-related defect, triggers the lemon law presumption. Additionally, 30 or more cumulative days out of service qualifies regardless of the number of repair attempts.

Does Jeep pay my attorney fees?

Yes. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Jeep is required to pay your reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs if you prevail in a lemon law claim. This means qualified lemon law representation is free to you if your case succeeds.

Can I file a lemon law claim without an active recall?

Yes. A recall is not required to file a lemon law claim. The Song-Beverly Act covers any substantial defect that impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle that the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts. NHTSA complaints support the claim by establishing a pattern, but are not a prerequisite.

What is the time limit to file a lemon law claim for my 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

California lemon law claims are generally subject to a four-year statute of limitations from the date you discovered or should have discovered the defect. However, you must still be within the manufacturer’s original warranty period when the defect first appears. Contact an attorney promptly to preserve your rights.
