Fuel and propulsion system defects can cause stalling, fuel leaks, or power loss — all substantial impairments of use and safety. The 2022 Genesis GV70 has generated 20 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. Owner reports include: “The high-pressure fuel pump failed, resulting in insufficient fuel delivery to the engine. This caused a significant loss of engine output, with the vehicle unable to accelerate beyond approximately 35 mph or stalling around 60 mph and exhibiting very slow acceleration. The lack of adequate power created unsafe driving conditions. I was nearly rear-ended while making a right turn and again while attempting to merge onto the interstate, as the vehicle could not accelerate as expected. There were no warning lights or prior indications of a problem on the dashboard. The issue first occurred on 2/21/2026, and I immediately stopped driving the vehicle. The vehicle has since been inspected by the Charlotte Genesis dealership, which diagnosed a high-pressure fuel pump failure.” (NHTSA Complaint #11721021)
The 2022 Genesis GV70 has generated 14 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. If your vehicle has experienced recurring issues in this area that the dealer has been unable to repair after multiple attempts, you may have a qualifying lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Owner reports include: “The radiator of my 2022 Genesis GV70 was damaged due to debris. When speaking with the Genesis technicians, they informed me that this happens frequently with this make and model becuase of the way the grille was manufactured. There is essentially no protection to the radiator which can cause damage to it without your knowledge. I was told it doesn’t take a large rock to damage it and you probably wouldn’t even know that it happened. Damage to the radiator can cause major issues to the vehicle while driving, potentially causing a major accident on the highway. The repair to the car was not covered, as they claim it was an external factor that caused it, even though the poorly designed grille should protect something as important as a radiator.” (NHTSA Complaint #11709136)
The 2022 Genesis GV70 has generated 12 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. If your vehicle has experienced recurring issues in this area that the dealer has been unable to repair after multiple attempts, you may have a qualifying lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Owner reports include: “Vehicle has severe condensation on both headlights (Driver and Passenger) sides. This issue was addressed before and light were replaced by dealership. This is definitely a design defect that allows condensation to accumulate. This has affected proper light projection which would not be adequate for reasonable visibility during dark hours. The amount of liquid(condensation) could potentially cause an electrical failure or spark in the front part of the vehicle. This issue has been broadly discussed in Genesis Forums with no permanent solution in sight.” (NHTSA Complaint #11705153)
Powertrain and transmission defects directly impair the vehicle’s core function and are generally considered substantial defects under California lemon law. Owners of the 2022 Genesis GV70 have reported harsh shifting, shuddering, slipping, and transmission warning lights. 12 NHTSA complaints have been submitted for this defect category. Owner reports include: “I was on 495 southbound and the car lost power, and almost crashed. I had a recall (low-pressure fuel PumP) but the dealer is not taking me because I am not the original owner of the vehicle, I went to Fitzgerald-Hyundai Genesis Subaru of Gaithersburg, and Mr. Brett Davis turned me out. Need to know who is going to fix my problem, sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)” (NHTSA Complaint #11560934)
Engine and cooling problems are among the most serious defects under California’s Song-Beverly Act. Owners of the 2022 Genesis GV70 have reported issues including stalling, overheating, loss of power, rough idling, excessive oil consumption, and check engine lights that return after dealer repairs. With 10 NHTSA complaints on record, this defect pattern is well-documented. Owner reports include: “The car loses power to accelerate in the middle of driving. I have to stop and turn it off and restart the car, then it will become normal for a little while before the same issue repeats again. It is really scary and can be very dangerous driving on a highway.” (NHTSA Complaint #11565790)

California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1790–1795.8) is one of the strongest lemon laws in the United States. It protects buyers and lessees of new and certified pre-owned vehicles that develop substantial defects the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts.
Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, a lemon law presumption is triggered when any of the following apply to your 2022 Genesis GV70:
Once the presumption is triggered, the burden shifts to Genesis to prove the vehicle is not a lemon. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Genesis must pay your attorney’s fees if you prevail — meaning qualified representation costs you nothing out of pocket.
If your 2022 Genesis GV70 qualifies as a lemon under California law, Genesis may be legally required to:
Step 1: Document every repair visit. Keep all repair orders, work orders, and dealer invoices. Each visit counts as a repair attempt, even if the dealer says nothing is wrong.
Step 2: Keep returning for repairs. You must give Genesis a reasonable opportunity to fix the defect. Visit different authorized Genesis dealers if needed and ask for written documentation of each visit.
Step 3: Contact a California lemon law attorney. Once you believe the threshold has been met — 4 attempts for non-safety defects, 2 for safety defects, or 30 days out of service — contact an attorney for a free case evaluation. Under § 1794(d), Genesis pays your fees if you win.
Step 4: Send a demand letter. Your attorney will send Genesis a formal demand letter. Most California lemon law cases resolve through negotiation without going to trial.
Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, four or more repair attempts for the same non-safety defect, or two attempts for a safety-related defect, triggers the lemon law presumption. Additionally, 30 or more cumulative days out of service qualifies regardless of the number of repair attempts.
Yes. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Genesis is required to pay your reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs if you prevail in a lemon law claim. This means qualified lemon law representation is free to you if your case succeeds.
Yes. A recall is not required to file a lemon law claim. The Song-Beverly Act covers any substantial defect that impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle that the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts. NHTSA complaints support the claim by establishing a pattern, but are not a prerequisite.
California lemon law claims are generally subject to a four-year statute of limitations from the date you discovered or should have discovered the defect. However, you must still be within the manufacturer’s original warranty period when the defect first appears. Contact an attorney promptly to preserve your rights.
