A Ferrari is not immune from defects. Owners of hybrid models like the SF90 Stradale and 296 GTB, and of the Purosangue and V12 cars, can run into electrical faults, warning messages or drivability problems that the dealer cannot resolve. If your Ferrari was bought or leased new in California, or sold by a dealer as a Ferrari Approved, demo or dealer vehicle, this page explains your rights.
The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act does not carve out exotic or high-priced cars. When a manufacturer cannot fix a warranty defect after a reasonable number of attempts, it must replace the car or repurchase it. On a vehicle at this price point, the refund and the civil penalty exposure can be significant, which is one reason a careful repair record matters so much.
Ferrari Warranty Coverage and Lemon Law
According to Ferrari's official aftersales information, every new Ferrari comes with a standard three-year manufacturer's warranty. Ferrari also offers paid warranty extensions that can carry coverage into later years of the car's life, and its Genuine Maintenance program covers scheduled maintenance for the first seven years.
For hybrid models, Ferrari states that hybrid components, including the high-voltage battery, carry their own standard coverage of 60 months from delivery to the first owner, with optional extension programs beyond that. Mileage limits, deductibles and extension terms vary, so check your warranty booklet and any extension contract for the exact terms on your car.
For pre-owned buyers, Ferrari Approved is the factory certified program sold through official dealers. Its warranty length depends on the market and the contract, so read the Ferrari Approved paperwork that came with your car.
Why the warranty matters: lemon law covers defects the warranty covers. Repairs done under the three-year warranty, a hybrid component warranty or a manufacturer-backed extension may all be relevant. Many Ferraris are driven fewer miles than a typical car, which can help, because the mileage offset is based on miles driven before the first repair visit for the problem.
If you bought a used Ferrari privately or from an independent seller with only the remaining factory warranty, the California Supreme Court's decision in Rodriguez v. FCA US LLC (2024) 17 Cal.5th 189 generally means it is no longer treated as a new motor vehicle. Dealer-sold certified, demo and dealer vehicles are different. Common Ferrari Problems in Recalls and Complaints
Ferrari builds a small number of cars, and public safety data reflects that. Our recall database, built from NHTSA recall and complaint data, does not currently list any Ferrari recall campaigns for vehicles from the 2021 model year forward. That does not mean your car has none. Recall coverage can change, so run your VIN through our VIN recall check and ask the dealer.
On the complaint side, NHTSA data shows 2 owner complaints for Ferrari models since the 2021 model year. One falls under visibility and wipers, the system that covers wipers, washers, defrosters and related controls. The other falls under the electrical system, which includes wiring, modules, displays and warning lights. The two models with complaints are the 812 Superfast and the Purosangue, with one complaint each.
Small numbers in public databases are not a reason to doubt your own experience. Lemon law looks at your car's repair history. Many problems on high-performance cars are never reported to NHTSA, especially when owners deal with the dealer directly. Issues that tend to bring any modern luxury car back to the shop include software and electronics faults, hybrid system warnings, sensor errors and infotainment glitches. If your Ferrari has gone back more than once for the same issue, that pattern is what counts.
How a Ferrari Lemon Law Claim Works
Warranty service on a Ferrari is handled by authorized Ferrari dealers. Because the dealer network is small, some owners travel or have the car transported for service. Keep the transport records, because they show time without the car and expenses you paid.
Repair orders
Ask for a repair order at every visit, including visits where the dealer says it could not duplicate the problem. Each one should state your complaint in your words, the mileage, the dates in and out, and the diagnosis and work done, including any software update. In our experience, a software update can count as a repair attempt, and the same update repeated without a fix is a pattern we see across brands.
The presumption
Civil Code 1793.22(b) presumes a vehicle is a lemon if, within 18 months or 18,000 miles, it had 2 or more repair attempts for a defect likely to cause death or serious injury, 4 or more for the same problem, or more than 30 days in the shop. The presumption is a benchmark; a car can qualify outside it. A Ferrari that waits weeks for parts may reach the 30-day out-of-service benchmark faster than you think.
Documenting the problem
Record a short video when a warning message appears on the cluster or the passenger display misbehaves. Write down the conditions, such as cold start, track mode or highway speed. Keep emails and texts with your service advisor. If the car is registered to a business, note that Civil Code 1793.22(e)(2) can still cover it when the gross vehicle weight rating is under 10,000 pounds and the buyer has no more than five vehicles registered in California.
You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs. If a manufacturer willfully violates the law, Civil Code 1794(c) allows a civil penalty of up to two times actual damages. California Lemon Law for Ferrari Owners
The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act protects Ferrari owners and lessees in California. If Ferrari or its authorized repair facilities cannot fix a warranty defect after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer must repurchase or replace the vehicle (Civil Code 1793.2(d)).
A vehicle is presumed to be a lemon if, within 18 months or 18,000 miles of delivery, the same problem was repaired 4 or more times, a defect that could cause death or serious injury was repaired 2 or more times, or the vehicle was out of service for repairs for more than 30 days in total (Civil Code 1793.22). Many vehicles outside that window still qualify while they are under warranty. New, leased, certified pre-owned, demo and dealer vehicles can qualify; ordinary used cars without a new-car warranty generally no longer do after Rodriguez v. FCA US (2024).
What you can recover
- Buyback: your down payment, payments, taxes and fees, minus a mileage offset, with the loan or lease paid off.
- Replacement with a comparable new vehicle.
- Cash and keep: a cash settlement while you keep the vehicle.
- Civil penalty of up to two times your damages if the manufacturer willfully failed to comply (Civil Code 1794(c)).
What it costs
You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs.

Ferrari Lemon Law FAQ
Does California lemon law cover a Ferrari?
Yes. The Song-Beverly Act has no price or brand exception. A new, leased, demo or dealer-certified Ferrari with a warranty defect that is not fixed after a reasonable number of attempts can qualify.
Who pays my attorney fees in a Ferrari lemon law case?
You pay nothing, win or lose. We are paid only if you win, and the manufacturer pays our fees, including in settlements. If a case is lost, our firm covers the costs.
My Ferrari has no recall. Can it still be a lemon?
Yes. A recall is not required. What matters is a warranty defect and a repair history showing the manufacturer had a reasonable number of chances to fix it.
Does a Ferrari warranty extension count for lemon law?
It may. Repairs done under a manufacturer-backed extension can be part of the repair history, but each contract is different, so we review the paperwork.
My Ferrari is titled to my company. Can I bring a claim?
Possibly. Civil Code 1793.22(e)(2) covers certain business vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating under 10,000 pounds when the buyer has no more than five vehicles registered in California.
How long does a Ferrari lemon law case take?
It depends on the repair history and whether litigation is needed. Cases that go to litigation take longer than those resolved early. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

Ferrari Lemon Law — Your Rights
If your Ferrari vehicle has a persistent defect that Ferrari’s authorized dealers cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts, California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act may entitle you to a full refund or replacement. This applies to new and certified pre-owned vehicles still within the manufacturer’s original warranty period.
Under the lemon law presumption, you typically need four or more repair attempts for the same problem, two attempts for a safety defect, or 30 cumulative days in the shop. Ferrari pays your attorney fees if your claim succeeds — you pay nothing out of pocket.
The manufacturer — not you — is required to pay your attorney fees under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d) if your lemon law claim is successful. You pay nothing upfront and nothing out of pocket.
