Moderate Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Very Strong

The 2024 Ford Edge has generated 10 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. If your vehicle has experienced recurring issues in this area that the dealer has been unable to repair after multiple attempts, you may have a qualifying lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Owner reports include: “My backup camera began malfunctioning in November 2025. Initially, the image became distorted, and shortly after, the screen went completely blank with a message instructing me to contact the dealership. I did so and was informed that my vehicle was not included in the recall and that I would be responsible for the repair costs out of pocket. I referenced the 15-year rearview camera extended warranty that applies to non-recalled vehicles. The dealership stated they were unaware of this warranty. As a result, I contacted Ford directly and opened a case with the Automotive Safety Office in November 2025. Today, I followed up with Ford to check on the status of my case and was told there has been no update. I was also informed that because there is no CSP number associated with the 15-year extended warranty for Edge models that are not actively recalled, Ford cannot take any action. I was essentially told that the warranty “does not exist,” despite the fact that it has been widely reported by major news outlets and automotive publications. I was further told that if my vehicle were currently at a dealership, they might be able to help, but since it is not, they cannot do anything. Ford also stated that while the issue could potentially be recalled in the future, there is no action they are willing to take at this time. This is a known Ford defect, and despite extensive documentation and public acknowledgment of the issue, Ford is refusing to repair it.” (NHTSA Complaint #11716980)

Powertrain

Moderate Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Strong

Powertrain and transmission defects directly impair the vehicle’s core function and are generally considered substantial defects under California lemon law. Owners of the 2024 Ford Edge have reported harsh shifting, shuddering, slipping, and transmission warning lights. 8 NHTSA complaints have been submitted for this defect category. Owner reports include: “Transmission failing less than 5,000 miles after having the transmission serviced at a dealership. Transmission shuddering and refusing to go into gear.” (NHTSA Complaint #11716880)

Air Bags

Moderate Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Moderate

Airbag defects are safety-critical and may trigger California’s two-repair threshold under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22. The 2024 Ford Edge has 6 NHTSA complaints on record related to airbag warning lights, unexpected deployment, and sensor failures. Owner reports include: “The contact owned a 2024 Ford Edge. The contact stated that, upon pulling into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle, only coming to a complete stop after partially driving through a storefront. The contact also stated that the forward warning collision system failed to activate. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility and deemed a total loss by the contact’s insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were not reported. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by the contact’s insurance provider, and a case was opened. Upon investigation, the vehicle’s incident recorder showed that the vehicle rapidly accelerated up to 17 MPH and that the contact did not depress the brake pedal. The failure mileage was 6,000.” (NHTSA Complaint #11694596)

Electrical System

Moderate Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Moderate

Electrical system failures are notoriously difficult to diagnose and repair, which often results in multiple unsuccessful repair attempts — a key element of a lemon law claim. Reported issues for the 2024 Ford Edge include infotainment malfunctions, battery drain, warning lights, power window failures, and intermittent starting problems. 6 NHTSA complaints have been filed for this category. Owner reports include: “The contact owns a 2024 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the hatch of the vehicle was designed to close automatically while the user owned the key fob, with the user’s foot underneath the hatch. The contact stated that the hatch had been closing prematurely while the key fob was not near the hatch, and the hatch had hit both the contact and family members on the head. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and had sent engineers to diagnose the vehicle, but the engineers could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.” (NHTSA Complaint #11675556)

Seats

Moderate Claim VolumeSong-Beverly Strength: Moderate

The 2024 Ford Edge has generated 6 NHTSA complaints for this defect category. If your vehicle has experienced recurring issues in this area that the dealer has been unable to repair after multiple attempts, you may have a qualifying lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Owner reports include: “I have a 2024 Ford Edge SEL. The issue is the the driver front and passenger front head rests. The head rest is only adjustable up to down, not forward or back. The current position of the head rest with the seat in normal upright driving position forces your head into your chest and you are looking at the floor with no neck support. There is no position to adequately support your head and neck with the current headrest. It is tilted too far forward toward the windshield. Dealer confirmed. Dealer looked it over and said this is how its made. No warnings. Just the position of the headrest appears to be tilted extraordinarily too far forward. High potential for injury in a crash. What I’d like to see is an alternate Headrest to alleviate the angle the current one poses upon the drive rand passenger.” (NHTSA Complaint #11612612)

California Lemon Law — Song-Beverly Act

California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1790–1795.8) is one of the strongest lemon laws in the United States. It protects buyers and lessees of new and certified pre-owned vehicles that develop substantial defects the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts.

Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, a lemon law presumption is triggered when any of the following apply to your 2024 Ford Edge:

  • 4+ repair attempts for the same non-safety defect without resolution
  • 2+ repair attempts for a defect likely to cause death or serious bodily injury
  • 30+ calendar days out of service for warranty repairs (cumulative, not consecutive)

Once the presumption is triggered, the burden shifts to Ford to prove the vehicle is not a lemon. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Ford must pay your attorney’s fees if you prevail — meaning qualified representation costs you nothing out of pocket.

What You Can Recover

If your 2024 Ford Edge qualifies as a lemon under California law, Ford may be legally required to:

  • Repurchase your vehicle — Full refund of your down payment, all monthly payments, registration fees, and incidental costs (towing, rentals), minus a mileage offset for miles driven before the first repair attempt
  • Replace your vehicle — Provide a new, comparable vehicle at no cost to you
  • Pay your attorney’s fees — Under § 1794(d), Ford pays all legal fees if you prevail
  • Civil penalty up to 2x damages — If Ford willfully violated the Act, courts may award double the actual damages

Steps to Protect Your 2024 Ford Edge Claim

Step 1: Document every repair visit. Keep all repair orders, work orders, and dealer invoices. Each visit counts as a repair attempt, even if the dealer says nothing is wrong.

Step 2: Keep returning for repairs. You must give Ford a reasonable opportunity to fix the defect. Visit different authorized Ford dealers if needed and ask for written documentation of each visit.

Step 3: Contact a California lemon law attorney. Once you believe the threshold has been met — 4 attempts for non-safety defects, 2 for safety defects, or 30 days out of service — contact an attorney for a free case evaluation. Under § 1794(d), Ford pays your fees if you win.

Step 4: Send a demand letter. Your attorney will send Ford a formal demand letter. Most California lemon law cases resolve through negotiation without going to trial.

2024 Ford Edge Lemon Law Questions

How many repair attempts qualify my 2024 Ford Edge as a lemon?

Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22, four or more repair attempts for the same non-safety defect, or two attempts for a safety-related defect, triggers the lemon law presumption. Additionally, 30 or more cumulative days out of service qualifies regardless of the number of repair attempts.

Does Ford pay my attorney fees?

Yes. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1794(d), Ford is required to pay your reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs if you prevail in a lemon law claim. This means qualified lemon law representation is free to you if your case succeeds.

Can I file a lemon law claim without an active recall?

Yes. A recall is not required to file a lemon law claim. The Song-Beverly Act covers any substantial defect that impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle that the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts. NHTSA complaints support the claim by establishing a pattern, but are not a prerequisite.

What is the time limit to file a lemon law claim for my 2024 Ford Edge?

California lemon law claims are generally subject to a four-year statute of limitations from the date you discovered or should have discovered the defect. However, you must still be within the manufacturer’s original warranty period when the defect first appears. Contact an attorney promptly to preserve your rights.
